Fine weather, somewhat overcast. The wind came up at noon. Thermometer: 60 - 87 - 70.
Climbed in the mountain in order to see the so-called drawings and strange characters which I had been told of, but I and found this to be lies. The characters were some scratches and the drawings were worse than those of the Bushmen, but the hollow rock looked like the entrance to a great church: 24 feet deep, 15 feet wide and 50 to 60 feet high. Saw the names of some farmers.

Departed over a sand-hill and after a three and a half hours' ride over the same terrain reached the Bergvlei which comes south and south-east out of the same mountain range into the Kruis River, and then runs with the latter into the Verlorenvlei behind the Piketberg. Josias Engelbrecht lived on this farm; small vlei.
