vertrokken door een oostelyke draay de valey op en arriveerden na vier uren rydens aan Swartbaas kraal veeplaats van enen villier waarop enige hottentot. alles swaar sand duinveld.

Fine weather. The south-west wind came up at eleven o’clock. Thermomete:r 68 - 88 - 73.

Left with an eastward turn through the vlei and arrived at Swartbaaskraal after a four hours' ride. This is the stock farm of a man called [De] Villiers, on which there are some Hottentots. Everywhere heavy sand, dune country.
