arriveerde na 2¾ rydens op de plaats het kruis. het zelvde veld. na 3 uur ¼ een hoogte op en een hoek van piket berg om by gerret smit hier begon het sand in harde grond met rhinoster bosjes en klippen te veranderen. reed na aan de oost zyde dit gebergte. al het water van hane camp (piketberg) af tot piqueniers cloof wat verby loopt in verloren valey. en de rest in berg rivier. de vrugten waren hier byna ryp en den oogst binnen die overal gesegent was geweest.

Fine hot weather. A light south east wind which came up late.
Thermometer: 67 - 88 - 73 degrees.
After a two and three quarter hours’ ride arrived at the farm Het Kruys. The same countryside. After three and a quarter hours’ up a hill and around the side of the Piketnerg to Gerrit Smit’s. Here the sand began to change into hard ground with rhinoceros-bush and stones. Rode close to the eastern side of these mountains. All the water from Hanekamp (Piketberg) to a bit past Pikenierskloof runs into the Verlorenvlei and the rest into the Berg River. The fruit was nearly ripe here; the harvest was in and had been abundant everywhere.
