Forgot the thermometer. Rain in the mountains, overcast sky, soft west wind. Cool weather.
Late yesterday evening received a letter from some friends who had arrived in Swellendam from Cape Town. Rode to Swellendam in the morning and saw the exercises of the three cavalry companies on foot, as well as on horseback. Joined the celebrations in the evening.
