1 Jan. Sunday 1786
We inspanned at a quarter past ten in the forenoon in the basin where the Nonjes river has its source. In it we saw two fresh lion tracks as well as gemsbok, hartebeest and striped-horse or zebra tracks. Baboon tracks as well but came across no trace of these animals We found scant but good water. We were all very weary; sleep overtook us so strongly that I fell asleep while on the march.
