Found we had shot twenty-one of them, namely eight bulls and ten cows and three young ones. This day we were busy cutting them up and salting them.
Found the latitude here (two observations) to average: 30 degrees 55 minutes south. Error 21 minutes north-west. The thermometer rose from 45 degrees to 85 degrees and dropped at sunset. The barometer showed 25 inches and 5 tenths, therefore 4230 feet above Cape Town. Erected a stone in honour of the Governor and found, after a closer count, twenty hippopotamus dead.
