Arrived at De Beer’s. Good weather. Thermometer 59 degrees to 80 degrees dropping to 63 degrees. Soft west wind.
I was not at all well. As we arrived a Hottentot woman sang a song of welcome for her son, who leads the team of oxen of our wagon.
It does happen that children are cast out, but not generally throughout the country, and then only as reult of want or great affliction. Otherwise most Hottentots are very fond of their children.
