26 ­ 9. na 6 uren arriveerde by de vos sandig hier en daar veel rinoster en harstbosjes

Departed for De Vos’s, and arrived there after 7 hours
From Landman: north-west by west 4 degrees north; Verkeerdevlei, one mile; Wouter de Vos, west; the Ko, south-west by west 2 degrees south, six hours by horse with bends.
Hot water south. Calm.

The pass runs thus [diagram showing meandering path with compass points] Thermometer: morning at dawn 56 degrees rising to 80 degrees, declining to 6 degrees

On the highest point of the way to De Vos the barometer gave 26 inches and 9 tenths. Arrived at De Vos after six hours; sandy here and there, with many rhinoceros-bushes and resin-bushes.
