Error 18 degrees north-west

The same weather and south-west wind.
Thermometer 66 - 92 - 75.
Bearings from the north east ridge: at Mrs. Ryck’s house, north-east; Oliphants River mouth, west by north six miles; at the confluence of the Doorn and Oliphants rivers, south east, 1½ miles; Karee Mountains, north-north-west, 2 degrees west. To the west is a place where they get salt; it is called Compagnies Drift.

The Aties river, the Troetroe, the Maskamma and the Biedouw run into the Oliphants River at Van Zyl’s second farm, Vredensdaal, and the Doorn River on the other side, at Koekenaap (a Hottentot name).
Along the Oliphants River there are many cotton-bushes, the kind that have a hard bark, and thorn- and willow-trees. At Windhoek there are wolwegift-trees. Departed west to north to the mouth of the river and arrived after a four hours’ journey with the ox wagon at the farm that used to be Koekemoer's, called Bakkeleyplaats. The veld has low ridges and reddish-brown sand (but with a clay base). Low shrubs, many resin-bushes, but of a different kind. There is much gum lying under the shrubs.
