mooy weer even bewolkt even z:o: gepasseerde nagt geregent uit den westen, de zee heeft sterk gehuildt.
schatte twe en een half myl van zee hier te zyn en een kleine myl van kokenaap, de oliphants rivier die over het geheel 50 pas breed is, draay hier westelyk af. reden de remhoogte op, in het n:n:w: na vier uren rydens in een swaar pad, caro, en door de diepe dwars rivier die uit de Coebieskow streek komt en hier in oliphants rivier loopt een half uur over zynde, waren de ossen moey, en wy spanden in de weg uit. door den dag ooste koelte. helder, ging op de jagt dog sag niets als een vars oliphants spoor en een haas. by onse uit span plaats waren veel geele oxellussen. alle struiken. vleesagtige bladeren, en meest mesembriantimum, de grond meest ros caro sand. slegt te vreten voor het vee, en het water seer brak.

Fine weather. Partly cloudy. Light south east wind.
It rained from the west last night; the sea roared loudly.
Estimate that we are two and a half miles from the sea here and just about a mile from Koekenaap. On the whole the Oliphants River is about 50 paces wide and here turns towards the west. Rode up through Remhoogte in a north-north-westerly direction. After four hours' travelling on a difficult Karoo-like, road and an half-hour after crossing the deep Dwarsrivier, which comes from the Koebieskouw region and runs into the Oliphants River here, the oxen were tired and we outspanned on the road. Throughout the day it was cold from the east. Clear. Went hunting but saw nothing except a fresh elephant track and a hare. There are many yellow oxalis at our halt. All the bushes have fleshy leaves and most are mesembryanthemums. The soil is mostly reddish-brown Karoo sand. Poor grazing for the cattle and the water is very brack.
