gepasseerde nagt iets koelder, desen morgen betrokken donder lugt, weinig z: wind. door den dag stil en seer warm
ging na de keurbooms riviers mond, dog kon om het welsand niet passeren. ging op een hoogte, en zag een groot rif klippen in de baay niet ver van strand aan de oost zyde keurbooms rivier, tussen de uitschietende punt en de mond; het was toen laag water. zag twe troppen buffels in een vlakte weiden, van 2 a 300 stuks ieder, en een baviaan dewelke de grootste was die ooit gesien heb, dagt eerst dat het een mensch was, hy stond ver in de laagte op zyn agterpoten na my te kyken, waarna hy een schreew gaf en wegliep. met den avond keerde by kreitsinger te rug.

A little cooler last night, overcast thundery sky this morning; a light south wind. Calm and very hot throughout the day. Went to the Keurbooms River mouth but could not cross on account of the quicksand. Went up a hill and saw a large reef of rocks in the bay not far from the shore, on the east side of the Keurbooms River and between the projecting point and the mouth. It was low tide at that time. Saw two herds of buffalo grazing on a plain, each of two to three hundred head. Saw a baboon also which was the largest I have ever seen; thought at first that it was a human being. It stood on its rear feet far off in the hollow looking at me, then it gave a cry and ran off. Returned to Kritzinger in the evening.
