Thermometer: 48-60-53.
Weather clearing up with a few showers from the north west. Light south east wind towards evening.

Arrived on horseback via Ratelklip at the Driegebroedersberg salt-pan, in which there is currently water. Then across Herenlogements Berg where I found after seven-and a-half hours riding my wagons outspanned at Van Zyl’s on the Oliphants River. There I found my travelling companion Pienaar, a burger of Rodesand, and the botanist Mr Paterson, who also wants to go to the Orange River, with a certain Van Reenen. They are first riding to the Bokkeveld.
