Noagha als hy loopt loopt hier in groot riv: en dan samen met een grote draay door Feston berg poort, dan koomt kaugha water en Jacob Jouberts
drie uren te paard benoorden ten westen, de gamtous riv: wagendrift en maaken te samen gamtous riv:
na twe uuren oostelyk aan kwamen by Jan van staden agter de grote kop van feston en na een groot uur by stoffel vijoen. tot hier waren de caffers in den laatsten sogenaamde oorlog geweest, (hier houden vele leeuwen). de wagen was nog twe uur voor uit

Tried to ride my horse and it was painful going. Left with the Veldwagtmeester, Stephanus Scheepers, and came to the Grote River in two and a half hours. Thereafter another quarter of an hour to Nouaga River whee the house, being remote, had been pillaged by Bushmen several weeks earlier. The butter that had been there was smeared over the walls; doors were broken open etc.
This region similar to that at Denidouw. When the Nouaga flows, it runs into the Grote River here. They then flow together in a large bend through the Festoonberg defile. Then comes water from the Coega and at Jacob Joubert’s, three hour’s ride to the north- west of the wagonford of the Gamtous river, all of these together form the Gamtouws River.
Going east for two hours we reached Jan van Staden's behind the large peak of the Festoonberg and after another good hour came to Stoffel Viljoen’s. The Caffres came as far as here in the most recent so-called war. (There are many lions here.) The wagon was still two hours ahead.
