  • Place: The farm “Vrede”, some thirty miles west of the modern town of Graaff-Reinet.
  • Date: November 1777 or September to October 1778

  • Gordon stayed at this farm with De Beer and his family, on the following dates: on 11th November 1777, 12th November 1777, 25th November 1777, 26th November 1777, 27th November 1777, 25th to 28th September 1778, from 7th to 11th October 1778 and from 21st October 1778 to 27th October 1778. His draughtsman, Schumacher, appears to have remained there while Gordon travelled with the governor Van Plettenberg between 11th and 21 October 1778(see GA-17-224).
