Found we had shot 21 of them, namely 8 bulls and 10 cows and 3 young ones. This day we were busy cutting them up and salting them.

Found the latitude here (two observations) to average: 30 degrees 55 minutes south. error 21 minutes north west The thermometer rose from 45 degrees to 85 degrees and dropped at sunset. The barometer showed 25 inches - 5 tenths, therefore 4230 feet above Cape Town. Erected a stone in honour of the Governor and found, after a closer count, 20 hippopotamus dead.
