Route from Visser north-north-west; from Hottentotsfontein, north-north-west half west; from Cloete north-west half west.

Fine weather. north-west wind fresh, veering with the sun and became south in the afternoon. Thermometer: 70 - 88 - 72 degrees. Route to Koorlandskloof north-north west half west, two and a half miles.

[page 30]
First rode north-west then north with a turn through the Kruis River kloof, because a river from [?Oosterhuis] enters it here where there are two abandoned farms. Halfway to Koornlandskloof: always beside and many times through the Fish River which has small standing pools. Many ridges and rhinoceros-bush after Visser. Willow-trees at the river, no thorn-trees; many partridges. An eighth of a mile from the Kruis River kloof is another farm, Hou den Bek belonging to the widow Smit. Many large convex stone slabs, as though formed by the sea. Koetzee’s farm, Koorlandskloof, is very fine. Here once more saw planted trees, vegetables and garden fruit. Barometer 25 inches and 6 tenths.
