Hot, calm, hazy. At ten o’clock a wind began from the south-east and blew strongly at the evening. Thermomete:r 68 - 95 - 85.
Departed southwards and arrived after a six and a half hours’ ride at the ferry on the Berg River, at a certain Joubert’s (four and three quarter hours from the Matjies River which brings the water of the Piket, Kardouw and Twenty-four Riviers into the Berg River here). And because the water was low, two feet deep, I rode through it.
Hard ground, gravel, now and then some sand. Arrived at a certain Hobrecht after riding two hours south-west

Bearings at Mrs. Krieger: to Honingbergen, Louw Pretorius’s farm which is close by and a stony place which is not grazed, south-south-east 3 degrees south; Riebeeck Casteel, south half east; Rodezandkloof corner, south-east by south, 4 degrees south, six miles; Kardouw, east 4 degrees north; Twenty-four Rivers, 3 miles.
