Good weather, sky somewhat overcast. south-west cool breeze.

Made everything shipshape again in the morning, helping to right the wagon again with our Hottentots, and found to our surprise that nothing was broken. Went uphill east north-east with turns directly under the Cango ridge. After two hours reached a farm, Voorgelegen, on the Cango belonging to a certain Van Royen. All poor, wretched farms. Here the Cango comes to an end although the ridge still runs alongside the Swartberg range. We left the Oliphants River, a quarter of an hour to our right; it here runs east-west close by a high ridge, behind which, at two hours distance as the crow flies to our right, are the Camnassi mountains, which extend in all directions but principally north and south. Travelled first slightly north-east through a deep kloof around the southern heights of which the Oliphants River runs; and came via a bushy road and a few rivulets – which all run south from the Angos into the Oliphants and along which many thorn-trees (mimosas) grew as they do everywhere along the banks of the Oliphants River – past a considerable farm belonging to a certain Schoeman situated on the Doorn River and called Rust. (Still karoo-country everywhere, and although one does not see the larger kind of moles, there are smaller ones near the houses). Schoeman lives decently and well here, even having a vineyard, oranges and other fruit. We then travelled on further east and towards six o'clock outspanned at Van Rensenburg's farm, Kruisrivier, where we exercised ourselves by shooting with bullets. The game along the Oliphants River is kudu, hartebeest and buffalo. We saw very little game however. Also cama [eland] sometimes come here, as well as lions and always wolves (hyenas) wild dogs etc. Our complete route from Attaquaskloof to Roelof Camfer's at Rietfontein was north-east by east, a distance of eight hours in a straight line, but longer due to turns. We are here directly below the end of the Cango, at Natteberg, a high ridge behind which I estimate he Swarte Bergen to two hours in a straight line to the north, running east-west. Our complete route today was east by north, a distance of four hours but longer due to turns.
