Went out in an easterly direction past Koeifontein and Bosfontein, which is two hours from Koeifontein while Bosfontein is three hours from Denidouw also in an easterly direction. In the evening outspanned at a river bordered by thorn-trees without finding water. We travelled for ten hours in all today, mostly between low mountains, the foothills of the Winterhoeks bergen.

Departed at dawn round a high ridge and through a kloof and over some very steep hills with several turns.

2 Calm in the morning.
Thunder sky in the north with lightening there. Very hot in the afternoon.
Thermometer: 60-99-86.

Our dogs lagged behind most of the time on account of the heat.

Hot. Still thundery sky in the N.
