The axle of the wagon having broken we fortunately found that there was a wagon-maker at this place, since the wagon could not have gone a day further.
Took the latitude of this farm: 33 degrees 39 minutes 57 seconds. Error: 26½ degrees north west.
Travelled with Stephanus Scheeper’s wagon round to the mouth of the Bushman’s River in order to begin taking measurements on the shore with my new quadrant. This has remained in perfect order, having been sealed up in the double-layered chest despite the the heavy jolting of the wagon. We rode to Holtshousen and the wagon went on to the Sundays River.
